Global Competencies
In class, we did readings about the competencies needed to be a global leader. The most important aspect of being a leader in a global setting is to have a global mindset which consists of having psychological capital, social capital, and intellectual capital. Global leaders must have the psychological capital needed to use their power effectively, the social capital to be able to form connections with the people they are leading as well as their peers, and the intellectual capital to know about the topic they are leading. In later classes throughout the program, we expanded on examples of each type of capital needed to be an effective global leader. We were about to measure our growth in these categories by taking an assessment at the beginning and end of the program - I grew in every category over the eight weeks. |
Global Mindset
In this course, we learned about different mindsets, primarily fixed and growth mindsets. Having a fixed mindset is believing that you are who you are and no outside experiences can change that. A growth mindset is the opposite and a person with this mindset believes that everyone can change and can grow as a person through new experiences. Someone with a growth mindset will want to take risks, try new things, and challenge themselves. This mindset is very valuable in a leader as they will be open to trying new things and learning from these experiences.
