Bolman and Deal's Four Frame Model
Bolman and Deal's Four Frames Model determines how an individual looks at and approaches organizational issues from four perspectives. The four frames are structural, human resources, political, and symbolic. I discovered I look at problems primarily through a structural frame meaning I focus on the strategy behind solving the problem and I am very task-oriented in my approach to problem-solving. While we did not cover this topic in great detail it was really interesting to see how most individuals with similar majors also had the same framework. |
Allianz Interview
We had the opportunity to interview a leader in a global corporation to learn about their leadership style. My group interviewed Eike, the Global Head of the Olympic and Paralympic Programs at Allianz. We discussed with her how she manages a team of 20 individuals, how she resolves conflict, and how her values impact her leadership style. Eike has values of communication, trust, and balance that impact her leadership style as it is based around these values. Her values match the values of Allianz which allows her to be good at her job and a dedicated employee to Allianz. |
"reaffirmed the importance of communicating well so people know you are an honest and trustworthy individual, being a reliable leader, and being knowledgeable about your topic of expertise so you can effectively guide others." - PRT Final Reflection Paper
Ethics
To learn about ethics we read five case studies that had ethical problems that needed to be solved. We each individually came up with a solution to the problems before discussing them as a class. Because there were ethical issues behind the problems some people were in disagreement about the correct solution and it became clear that some people in the class had different ethical focuses. This resulted in some problems not having a solution that everyone agreed to but it helped us realize that as leaders, we will have to make difficult decisions and must pick a solution that we will feel okay about ethically.
