Why I Chose to Study AbroadI, unlike many others in this program, have not always dreamed of studying abroad but instead thought this was something I would never do. However, when I learned about this program I saw an opportunity to stretch myself and grow as an individual and as a leader. One career option I am interested in is consulting within Industrial and Systems Engineering and to be a consultant you need to have good leadership skills and interact with individuals from around the world. Therefore when I learned about this program I saw an opportunity to have a great experience, set myself apart in my field, and advance my career opportunities.

Why I Would Recommend Studying Abroad
Before this program, I had never been out of the country so I was afraid and didn't know what to expect. I heard stories from people who traveled and interacted with unkind people, so I was afraid I would experience this as well. However, once I got to Prague and first started interacting with local citizens I realized that they aren't very different from me. I was able to communicate with the individuals who speak English and aside from smaller social nuances there isn't a huge difference between people in the Czech Republic and America. While this may not be true everywhere in the world it helped me realize that just because people live in a different country than I do it doesn't mean they are that different from me. This realization helped me to be more open to talking to new people, learn about their culture, and be open to new experiences. This experience helped me increase my confidence in myself and it made me want to know even more about the world around me and the variety of cultures that exist within it.
