Big Takeaways
CliftonStrengths
Everyone in the class, both German and American students, had to take the CliftonStrengths Talent Assessment to determine our top five strengths. These strengths are separated into four categories: Relationship Building, Executing, Influencing, and Strategic Thinking. We met with our groups for the course and shared our strengths with one another, my group was interesting because someone had the majority of their strengths in each of the categories so each strength was filled. This led to us working well together as each of us had different strengths and we were able to delegate the work so that each task was completed well. |
Values
In class, we did an assignment to determine our top 3 values. We started with a list of 100 core values, then narrowed the list to ten then five then three. My top three values are:

Cultural Immersion
The two weeks we were in this class we were working with a group of German students. We completed readings about differences between German and American cultures to learn about some of the cultural differences we might experience while working together. Working with the German students every day was a great experience that gave us real-world practice working with individuals from a different culture. I was able to learn a lot about German culture as well as learn skills to help me communicate when groups have different expectations and work ethics. One of my favorite parts of the two weeks spent in Reutlingen was when I went out to lunch with three of the German students. I had a lot of fun talking to them and getting to know them. During this lunch they taught me how to order my food in German, we talked about the differences in education in our countries, and we shared our career aspirations for the future. |
